Let food be your medicine . . ." A Comprehensive Discussion on Nutrition and Cancer presented by Dr. Joel Evans, MD. Dr. Evans is the Director of the Center for Women's Health in Darien and is the only physician in CT to be board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Holistic Medicine. We all have an intuitive understanding of the health effects of the foods we eat, and yet there is such conflicting information on the topic that many find it difficult to assess fact from fiction. Dr Evan's presentation is designed to give authoritative information, based on the scientific literature, on what is known about the relationship between nutrition and cancer. Topics to be discussed include dietary strategies for cancer prevention, the theoretical basis for nutritional interventions to facilitate cancer regression and a comprehensive evaluation of the controversy surrounding soy.
Breast Cancer Survival Stories! with Susan Santangelo takes place on Thursday October 11th. Ms. Santangelo is the Executive Director and Founder of the Breast Cancer Survival Center (BCSW) in Fairfield County with locations in Norwalk and Fairfield. The center was founded in 1999 to provide post-treatment education and support for breast cancer survivors and their families. Come meet Susan and others as they share their personal stories of surviving breast cancer.
The series continues on October 18th with
Complementary/Nutritional Medicine and Cancer with Dr. Henry Sobo, MD. Today, surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are the common cancer therapies used. Research studies have shown that the side effects of these treatments may be alleviated by targeted nutritional supplementation, and that the body's immune system may be helped to more effectively fight the underlying condition. Dr. Sobo will review the evidence and methods of care for those who currently have cancer and for survivors. Dr. Sobo completed his residency training in 1985 in Internal medicine at the Maimonides Medical Center. He is a board certified member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (specialty interest in obesity and related problems). Dr. Sobo has his practice in Stamford, CT.
On Thursday October 25th Pam Leahy, herbal consultant, will present
Botanical Medicine in Women's Health Care. Ms. Leahy is trained in Chinese and western herbology and is certified in the Taoist Health Arts. Beginning with the onset of menstruation and continuing through menopause, women experience physical and emotional highs and lows linked with fluctuating hormone levels. Botanical medicine and nutrition offer natural solutions to help balance hormones, relieve stress, improve digestion, help prevent
cancer and heart disease, enhance immune function, and increase energy and vitality. Pam teaches herb workshops in the tri-state area and maintains a private practice in Chinese Herbology at TLC, Norwalk.
Health Talks continues in the month of November with
Personal Opinions About Breast Cancer with Dr. Warren Levin, MD. On November 1st, Dr. Levin, NY's Dean of Alternative Medicine, will share his personal opinions on breast cancer. His personal recovery from advanced cancer 11 years ago has added a powerful appreciation of the patient's viewpoint to his over 40 years in medical practice. Dr. Levin is board certified in Family Practice, Chelation Therapy, Bariatrics (weight control), Environmental Medicine and Advanced Longevity Medicine. He serves on the Board of Examiners certifying other physicians in Chelation Therapy and Advanced Longevity Medicine and has his practice in Wilton, CT.
