The Yale-New Haven Hospital Mobile Mammography Van visits Total Life Care Center at Gibbs College, Norwalk on October 22, 2001. The van is available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to perform breast cancer screening mammography as part of Breast Health Awareness Month.

This event is sponsored by The Total Life Care Center (TLC) in Norwalk. The mammography van is one of TLC's Health for Life Partnership's major events to take place during Breast Health Awareness Month. According to Beth Leas, Co-Founder of this project, "This is an opportunity for TLC and our community to offer ALL women access to this life-saving, early detection tool."

One in every eight women will learn she has breast cancer at some time in her life. Screening mammography is still the best-known method in the early detection of breast cancer. The American Cancer Society as well as The National Cancer Institute recommends that women receive a mammogram every one or two years at age 40-49 and every year over 50.

To make it convenient for women, the entire process takes less than 15 minutes. To schedule an appointment, or for more information call the Yale-New Haven mammography office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 203-688-6800.

Health for Life Partnerships' first annual Breast Health Awareness Month is a small-scale pilot project dedicated to educating women and men about breast cancer prevention through lifestyle choices and the importance of early detection and treatment.
